10 of My Favorite Vloggers + Why I Prefer Vlogs to Reality TV

It didn't occur to me until I had to explain what vlogging was to my friend's boyfriend driving up the coast in California a couple of falls ago that I watch a lot of YouTube. Like, a lot a lot. I consume more YouTube than I do television and have never watched a reality TV show aside from a few stray episodes besides like, Project Runway and The Voice (is that reality TV?) I'm not a Bachelor girl and Keeping Up With The Kardashians is not my cup of tea by any means. However, despite my hatred for legitimate reality TV, I gravitate towards YouTube's version of it: vlogs.

If you really think about it, vlogs are kind of just like watching a reality television show of somebody's life except it's usually just them filming themselves doing whatever they had planned to do and it's exceptionally and fantastically normal. I love that watching vlogs feels like watching friends (I mean, sometimes I legitimately am watching friends, which is also fun and weird and doesn't usually happen with actual reality TV). Vlogs are real and raw and comforting to watch, to me. I don't thrive off of the drama (though I do love myself some tea here and there), so watching normal people live their normal lives through their digital cameras is super refreshing to me.

I'm subscribed to a lot of people who mainly vlog, but there are ten people that I can't miss a video from. I'm not including most people from the Vlog Squad because your girl is a sucker for David Dobrik and his crew of heathens friends so we're just not even going to go there...mostly.

1. Austen Tosone

So I'm biased, Austen is a friend but even before I moved to NYC, I loved watching her videos when I was missing the city and feeling FOMO that I hadn't moved yet. If you're into fashion, beauty, NYC, and want to learn more about all of those things as well as the life of a freelancer and blogger, you know what to do and where to go!




2. Gabby Whiten

Okay, so I'm biased again because Gabby is also a pal and I appear in these videos from time to time but I swear my narcissism has nothing to do with this! If you're interested in seeing more about New York City and what to do and eat here and like aesthetically pleasing shots with some lovely humor added in there, give her channel a watch and you will never be disappointed.




3. Michelle Dufflocq

Okay, this is the last biased one on this list, I swear. It's not my fault that my pals are lovely vloggers and their channels bring me great amounts of joy! Michelle shares her channel with her sister and it's the most wonderful combination of life and art and it's just all around grade A content, okay?!




4. Alix from I Covet Thee

Alix's style is so cool and her voice is so relaxing and I just can't help but get sucked into her vlogs! She just moved to London with her boyfriend and I just find her content super realistic and relatable, which isn't always super important to me, though I did notice I stopped watching a lot of the luxury YouTubers I had previously been obsessed with so I'm not sure if there is any correlation there...I digress, she's got a really cool personality and is super down to earth which makes watching a super pleasant experience.




5. Zoe Sugg

Say what you will about Zoe Sugg, but her long ass vlogs GIVE ME LIFE. Her Vlogmas series every year makes the holidays worth it to me. I'd rather watch her 45 minute long vlogs over an episode or two of a TV show any day. Unless that show is Gilmore Girls, I could never do that to Gilmore Girls.



6. Joe Sugg

Joe Sugg is just an adorable and funny human and his vlogs crack me the hell up. Also, his roommate Byron is super hot and I still think about that time they took a mulled wine bath together from Vlogmas 2017 every single day.



7. Suzie from Hello October

Suzie's personality is so good. I wish I possessed her confidence. She's somebody I've subscribed to then unsubsribed from and then resubscribed to over the course of the past like, six years but I always come back to her content! I sometimes skip her sitdown videos, but I'm a big fan of her vlogs because she's one of those people who's also super down to earth and just had a pretty badass personality all around. Plus, she just moved house again and I'm living for all of the moving vlogs!

8. Carly Incontro and Erin Gilfoy

Okay, so these are the only member of the Vlog Squad I'm going to mention because I would DIE FOR CARLY AND ERIN. They're so funny together and separately and their vlogs are so painfully normal that ii brings me immense amounts of joy. I pray for new Starbucks drinks to come out just so they can go to their local drive-thru and find out that they don't even have the drinks there for them to try out. And how could I ever forget about the beautiful postal service worker Bobby? He is a gem and I hope he continues to be featured in every single possible vlog.




9. Estée Lalonde

This is the last of the UK vloggers that I'm going to drop onto this list, but she is just so real and cool and I'm obsessed with her personality. Plus, she's from Canada so she understands the importance and vitality of Tim Hortons in this world.




10. Ashley from Bestdressed

This is probably the newest channel I've subscribed to and I don't regret it for a second. Ashley is super funny, clever, and mega talented. Her editing is amazing but she's also so creative when it comes to...everything? If you're into DIY, fashion, thrifting, and just all around cool and open YouTubers, this is the channel for you.
