My favorite thing about pleated skirts is the way they swish when you walk. It's a weird thing to like, but I love the way they move with your body and with the wind. I mean, you'll see how much fun I had–contrary to my resting bitch face–playing around with this particular pleated kind of maxi skirt but also a midi skirt. It's like...maxi-ish in the front and midi on the sides. So complicated, but it was on sale at H&M and you know how much I love a bargain.
I think this whole affair with pleated skirts started when I was in elementary and middle school. Though, admittedly, I didn't know how #blessed I was with my pleated jumpers turned pleated plaid skirts until I transitioned into boring old skorts in high school. Blame it on Cher Horowitz, but there's nothing like a cute plaid pleated mini skirt. But today is about the older sister and arguably more "sophisticated" pleated maxi or midi skirt. Dress them up, dress them down, do whatever you want with them because they are versatile AF.

Back in the fall, I bought this long black pleated maxi skirt from Uniqlo that I styled two different ways over the course of the time I've had it: with an all black ensemble (which is what I ended up wearing to my first day of work at my new job) and for a more casual look with a t-shirt and leather jacket. Ever since, I've been itching for another pleated maxi skirt, I just never really found one that stood out to me (though I'm still searching for the perfect silver metallic one!). And then it one jumped out at me on a sale rack in H&M and all was right in the world.
Admittedly, I almost passed on it because it's not my size. Not even close, actually. It's two sizes too small but since it has an elastic waist and it's not a form-fitting skirt, I just had to wiggle it past my hips and make sure that the band was around the smallest part of my waist. H&M's sizing sucks but this time it actually helped me. What a rarity....
Since it was still cold when I took these pictures (I should've been wearing tights, boots, and a jacket but you gotta do what you gotta do), I kept it simple with my favorite self-aware sweater from Zara because it kind of matched the off-white/tan color of the skirt (Lightroom helped make it more exact LOL). But I can totally see myself wearing this through the summer with some nude or black sandals, a navy or black (the band is black, the "spots" are navy) t-shirt with a messy bun or ponytail. Easy, peasy, I'm not going to finish this statement because I already say enough embarrassing shit on this blog.

Looks like we had the same idea because I wore a pleated skirt in my OOTD today too! I laughed when I read that you liked the way pleated skirts would swish when moving because that's the exact same reason why I love my pleated skirts too!
ReplyDeleteThis is honestly my favorite outfit of yours! I love the streetstyle vibe with the sweater! Too cute!
