I Was Busy Thinking 'Bout... | An August Playlist

There is a reasonable explanation for the nine Kesha songs on this month's playlist...KESHA IS AMAZING. It's as simple as that. It started with the emotional experience I had when I heard "Praying" for the first time and went on a hunt to find as many live performances of it as possible because sometimes I just like to make sure I'm not a robot and am fully capable of feeling things from time to time. And then I went down the Kesha rabbit hole and I had to bop to some of her old jams. I'm still working my way through her new album because it generally takes me sixteen years to listen to something new.

I've talked about some of these songs in Things I'm Loving posts throughout the month. "Take Me" by Aly & AJ has gotten plenty of love from me since it debuted. Maren Morris has also taken up a spot in my most played artists during the month. "Once" and "I Could Use A Love Song" are on heavy rotation, but her entire album is just incredible. Even if you don't like country music (which, I will completely admit that I do not), there's a high chance that you'll still like her! If you're a fan of Kacey Musgraves, you can dig Maren's material too!

A song by The Japanese House came up in one of my radio stations on Spotify (if you were wondering, it was the "From The Dining Table" station) and I was immediately intrigued. "Swim Against the Tide" and "3/3" have had a special place in my heart and playlist this month. They're my night time tunes, the sort of eclectic electro indie music that makes any car ride at dark feel extra soothing and emotional.

On a complete other end of the spectrum, there are also some songs that are featured in The O.C. because I'm still making my way through rewatching the show. "Saturday Night" by The Thrills is just a quintessential song for that show. They remind me a bit of Rooney, which is also another band that is basically The O.C.'s vibe personified.

And you know, there are tons of others songs sprinkled in there too that I obviously enjoy because, well, they're on my playlist for the month! Also not featured because I listen to them mainly on my phone: "Slow Hands" by Niall Horan (still), "New Rules" by Dua Lipa, "Supercut" by Lorde, "Soundcheck" by Catfish and the Bottlemen, and "Strangers" by Halsey.

What have you been listening to this month?
