What I'm reading: I've read quite a few books over the course of the past week, but only one of those books I truly feel like I can recommend because I loved it. The other two...well, I'll leave those for a post for another time! However, I just recently read Little Black Dresses, Little White Lies by Laura Stampler and it knocked my socks off. It's no secret that I'm a speedy reader, but I genuinely did not want to put this book down at any time. I finished it in a day in probably a six hour period or so and it was so worth it. The only downside to my expedited reading process is that I'm done with the books I love so dearly in such a short period of time. Oh well!
Little Black Dresses, Little White Lies is about high-schooler Harper Anderson, the newest intern for Shift magazine. There's a catch–she's the new summer dating blogger with no dating experience herself, besides a few bad kisses. In fact, her application essay (which landed her the spot) about a bad hookup was based on her best friend Kristina's embarrassing faux pas. Far away from her comfort zone in California, Harper takes on a new persona in New York City, making sure that she becomes the magazine's ideal summer intern and dating blogger.
This book was downright adorable. I adored Harper's character. I thought she was smart, witty, and charming while still staying true to her sweet self. Sure, she gets a little swept up in the occasional glitz and glamor that went along with being in New York during the summer with some pretty fab other interns. Plus, you can't forget her friendship with her Aunt Vee's adorable dog-walker. I mean, this book features an overweight pug named Princess. Could it get any better?
What I'm visiting: I wasn't entirely sure where to put this, so I decided that we'd create a new wild card section for today's post. I've been loving scrolling through the Instagram feed of Diet Prada (@diet_prada). It's essentially just an Instagram account that calls out any blatant (or even subtle) copycats in fashion, whether it's runway, editorial, or RTW. I just love the tea, okay?! I think it's just a really interesting and entertaining account to follow. If you're super into fashion or are just here for the drama, I'd for sure give this account a follow!
What I'm listening to: I might have already talked about my obsession with this song, but in case I haven't, the song "Dead" by Madison Beer has been giving me life. Y'all, I know there's drama with her but like, all of that aside, this is a bop and I've taken to singing it loudly in my car with all of the windows down. It makes me feel sassy and sexy and like I could kick a man right between the ribs. Who doesn't love that feeling?!
I've also been listening to a lot of "New York" by St. Vincent. I don't listen to a lot of St. Vincent which is really dumb because she's super rad and I love the music of hers that I do listen to. I stumbled upon this by accident on some random indie music station on the TV while I was babysitting a couple of weeks ago and was like..." yeah, I dig this." And now here we are! From that same babysitting night, I also heard the song "Shut Up Kiss Me" by Angel Olsen, which is also a super rad tune that would be really fun to listen to with the windows down on a really hot day whilst wearing a pair of cut-off denim shorts and a white t-shirt. Why so visual? I have no idea.
What I'm consuming: I would just say what I've been eating, but there's also a drink in this mix so...wasn't quite sure where to go with that one. This is all very new to me, this new set-up...which I've been doing for like three weeks now...sssh, just go with it. Anyways, I've been obsessed with McVities Digestives, which sound more disgusting than they taste.
I watch a lot of English Youtubers and a lot of them talk about these "digestives" cookies and I, admittedly, would wince every time. I mean, does that not sound like the least appetizing thing on earth? Digestives? Y'all, I was wrong. I WAS WRONG. I'm frequently wrong, so this wasn't surprising to me. I picked these up at my local Wegmans in the international food section and was not disappointed. I got the milk chocolate versions and they're like more dense graham crackers coated in a chocolate so delicious that I would certainly just eat a bar of it on its own. Y'all, these blow those gross ass fudge stripe cookies out of the water (my apologies if you like those, to each their own. I don't like half of the foods that everyone else loves). If you can find these, pick up a container or sleeve or however they come packaged at your store. So worth the treat!
I blame Tati for my newest obsession with caffeinated water. I've seen her drinking these in her recent videos and I'm like "Wow, caffeinated water, that's kind of dumb" and then I stumbled upon the Hint Black Raspberry Caffeinated Water at Wegmans and can't stop drinking it. I hate paying for water but I've tricked myself into thinking I need that extra 60mg of caffeine in each bottle. Stupid, stupid, stupid...yet here I am, wishing I had another bottle. I'm going to have to pick up a 12-pack ASAP instead of buying separate bottles. I'm weak, y'all. I'll let my wallet suffer for any placebo effect regarding caffeine. I'll do it! Oh, plus it tastes nice and keeps you hydrated. That's a nice plus.
What I'm using: Again, another strange category but I don't know what to call this stuff. Basically, I've been obsessed with my new camera. It was time. I've been debating about this for...too long, really. It was time to finally take the plunge. I got the most basic of basic cameras that is quite a few versions old because I didn't want to spend a ton of money and also because I needed something user-friendly. I ended up picking up a Canon Rebel T5 kit and...I adore it! It just feels nice being able to take photos that I'm not immediately disgusted with. I haven't had a chance to use it on any outfit pictures lately, but I'm hoping that changes if I ever find a decent place in this god forsaken city that isn't heinously ugly or teeming with tourists. Someday soon...
