I have a rocky relationship with wearing jewelry. I think it's fair to say that I am just not a jewelry person. I used to wear earrings when I was a kid and then there was an incident during Halloween when I was in elementary school (my spider earrings got caught on my pillow and I woke up to a pillow attached to my ear and it was pretty traumatizing). I basically swore off earrings after that until there was an isolated circumstance in which I had to wear earrings to my brother's wedding in seventh grade. After that, I don't think I wore them unless the circumstances were necessary. That's pretty much how I feel about jewelry now. I never really had a piece of jewelry that was insanely special to me. I had my mom's pearl earrings that I still have and wear from time to time. I have a couple of random Kate Spade pieces. Really, it wasn't until I was graciously gifted my David Yurman Morganite Albion Ring for graduation from my co-workers that I had a piece of jewelry that I wanted to wear every day. I'm just a forgetful person and jewelry is the last thing I think about when I'm getting ready in the morning.
However–and this is a big however–statement earrings get me every time, man. I love me a statement earring. I love seeing people on blogs and on Instagram color blocking with these bright, funky pieces hanging from their ears. I've seen it most recently on Megan Ellaby who can color block and mix patterns and feels with just about anything. I tested it out myself in this Instagram post with my Zara ruffle sleeved dress. Those beaded white tassel earrings are the newest to my very (seriously, very) tiny earring collection and even smaller statement earring collection. I suppose this post is less of a post about how I style statement earrings and more of a reminder to myself that I should really buy more because they're really fun additions to outfits.
I don't think statement earrings are a piece of jewelry you can really go wrong with. As you can see pictured at the way tippy-top of this post, I have them paired with a plain graphic tee shirt from Zara. I've worn mine with sweaters, dresses, a dress shirt, a tee shirt, really anything. They're much more versatile than you'd think and are the perfect way to either add some color or some spice to your outfit. Wear them with your hair down for a more subtle look or let them pop with your hair in a sleek, high ponytail or a nice messy bun. The possibilities are endless!
